Jenn – “I’ve been athletic my whole life playing a bunch of sports in high school like soccer, softball, and tennis to name a few. I played Rugby throughout college and would run frequently during and after college. In preparation for my marriage in 2014 I decided to begin a lifting regimen at a local gym while continuing cardio. After getting married and not having any set goals planned I lost the drive and interest I had with continuing to stay fit. I lost my energy, put on a significant amount of weight, and became depressed. I decided after Christmas of 2014 I had to change my life. I had seen some advertisements for CrossFit and thought it would be a great integration of lifting and cardio. I decided to join a box not knowing what I was in store for. I learned a lot of the functional movements and kept up with the program for about a year and half but I just wasn’t happy and I wasn’t progressing which caused me to fall back into my old habits. I joined CrossFit looking for a comradery and the need for a group of supportive people to help push me and inspire me and I just didn’t feel that way there. I decided to leave that box however the issue I had to deal with was that I still loved the sport of CrossFit just not necessarily the community associated with that particular box. My biggest fear was trying CrossFit again and feeling like I didn’t fit in. I decided to take the plunge and reach out to Kristen at CFMC. I was still harboring many fears and reservations but I still decided I needed to give it one more shot. From the first e-mail I received to current date I’ve never been happier with my choice and I’ve never looked back. Every single athlete at CFMC has made me feel welcome in one way or another. When I first started they were doing a nutritional challenge and I joined in, not only did I win the challenge but I took what I learned from the challenge and have been making it a permanent life choice. I lost 10 lbs. in 6 weeks and have been able to increase my lifting weight, form, and performance during workouts significantly over the past 3 months while at CFMC. My recommendation to anyone reading this that has had a similar experience to what mine has been is that there is a lot more to choosing a box than just finding a location close to your home, or finding a place that will save you an extra ten dollars a month, it’s really about finding a community of people that genuinely care about you and your goals and successes. My only regret when I first started CrossFit was that I didn’t realize how important it was to find a community that fits you. All I can say is I’ve learned so much since being here and I would never regret walking through the CFMC doors. In my opinion It’s worth the drive, traffic, and money but most importantly it’s worth the community and friendships that I’ve already been able to make in the past few months that have propelled me into being a better and more consistent athlete and happier person. Thank you CFMC!”
